MASON, Ohio, May 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Families facing homelessness have a second chance at achieving housing stability with the support of Bethany House Services. The Navient Foundation, the company-sponsored philanthropic fund, donated $6,500 to the nonprofit. The grant will support services to families in the shelter including food, clothing, life skill classes, children’s programming and comprehensive case management.

“We are very grateful to Navient, both for their wonderful, giving volunteers and for their grant, which helps to support our mission,” said Susan Schiller, executive director, Bethany House Services. “The homeless families we serve benefit from this generosity.”

The nonprofit is committed to providing resources and shelter to help at-risk families become self-sufficient. Founded in 1983, the multi-faceted nonprofit strives to empower homeless and at-risk families by providing them with re-homing services needed to avoid future episodes of homelessness.

Since the beginning of 2018, the nonprofit has served 1,076 individuals in 286 families. Last year, the nonprofit began providing a Permanent Supportive Housing Program, an initiative that serves families with physically or mentally disabled members.

“Bethany House Services acts as a haven for families facing homelessness,” said Brian Hill, vice president, Navient. “The nonprofit and its services have made a positive impact in our communities and has helped many families get back on their feet.”

Many of Bethany House Services’ programs extend to children to provide a multigenerational approach to poverty and homelessness. Other services provided to children include Stranger Danger, a program designed to reduce the high rates of abuse among economically disadvantaged children and Positive Parenting, an initiative that promotes strong bonds between a child and their parent.
