US market indexes ended higher on Friday after shaking off early losses from uncertainty around trade tensions at the G-7 trade summit in Canada. Consumer staples, health care, real estate and industrials led gains in the S&P 500. The S&P 500 technology and energy sectors were both lower for the day after rallying earlier in the week.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- Wholesale trade inventories reported a monthly increase of 0.1%.
- The Baker Hughes rig count increased to 1,174 from 1,159.
