US Market Indexes Close Lower Thursday, Dow Ends Consecutive Gains

Dow Jones closes lower at 26,627.48 after 5-day gaining streak

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 26,627.48 on Thursday with a loss of -200.91 points or -0.75%. The S&P 500 closed at 2,901.61 for a loss of -23.90 points or -0.82%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 7,879.51 for a loss of -145.57 points or -1.81%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher at 14.15 for a gain of 2.54 points or 21.88%.

Thursday’s market movers

U.S. market indexes were lower across the board on Thursday with the Dow Jones ending a five-day gaining streak. A rally in Treasury yields caused substantial risk-off trading for investors as bonds drew assets from the equity market. The 10-year Treasury ended the day at approximately 3.18% and the three-month Treasury closed at approximately 2.21%. Equity market sectors leading losses for the day included technology, consumer discretionary and health care.
