The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 25,413.22 on Friday with a gain of 123.95 points or 0.49%. The S&P 500 closed at 2,736.27 for a gain of 6.07 points or 0.22%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 7,247.87 for a loss of 11.16 points or -0.15%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower at 18.14 for a loss of 1.84 points or -9.21%.
For the week, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were down 1.1% and the Dow Jones was down 1.8%. Year to date, the Nasdaq is up 3.4%, the Dow Jones has gained 2.37% and the S&P 500 has a return of 1.5%.
Friday’s market movers
U.S. market indexes continued to gain Friday for a second consecutive day. The two-year Treasury helped equity demand with the highest weekly decrease in two years. A report from President Trump that suggested the U.S. may not impose more tariffs on China also contributed to the day’s gains.
Technology stocks were lower, however, as many large-cap companies sold off. Nvidia (NVDA, Financial) led the day’s losses, down 19%, after the company missed revenue expectations and reported disappointing revenue estimates.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- Industrial production increased 0.1% in October and 4.1% annually.
- The Baker Hughes North American rig count increased to 1,279 from 1,277.

In small caps, the Russell 2000 closed at 1,527.53 for a gain of 3.41 points or 0.22%. The S&P 600 closed at 961.44 for a gain of 2.90 points or 0.30%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Growth TSM Index closed at 9,500.85 for a gain of 20.66 points or 0.22%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Value TSM Index closed at 9,685.38 for a gain of 16.02 points or 0.17%.
