GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Athens Bancshares Corp is a bank holding company of Athens Federal Community Bank. The Bank offers banking and financial services to consumers and businesses by accepting deposits from general public and using those funds to lend loans.

Athens Bancshares Corp was incorporated in September 2009. The Company is a holding company engaged in ownership and management of Athens Federal Community Bank, National Association. The Company through its bank holding provides financial services to individuals and corporate customers through its seven branches located in Athens, Sweetwater, Etowah, Madisonville, and Cleveland, Tennessee. The Company's deposit products include checking, savings, certificates of deposit, and IRA accounts. Its lending products include one-to-four family residential, commercial real estate, and consumer loans. The Company operates in five segments including commercial, residential 1-4 family, commercial real estate and multi-family, construction and land and consumer and other. Residential 1-4 family loans include real estate loans secured by 1-4 family first mortgage loans, second liens, or open end real estate loans, such as home equity lines. Commercial real estate and multi-family loans include owner-occupied commercial real estate loans, owner-occupied construction loans for commercial businesses, and loans secured by income producing properties. Owner-occupied commercial real estate loans to operating businesses are long-term financing of land and buildings. Owner-occupied construction loans for a commercial business are for the development of land or construction of a building. Construction and Land portfolio segment includes extensions of credit to real estate developers or investors where repayment is dependent on the sale of the real estate or income generated from the real estate collateral. The commercial loan portfolio segment includes commercial and financial loans. These loans include those loans to commercial customers for use in normal business operations to finance working capital needs, equipment purchases, or expansion projects. The consumer loan portfolio segment includes direct consumer installment loans, overdrafts and other revolving credit loans, and educational loans. Through its operating subsidiary, Southland Finance, Inc., company also offers consumer finance loans secured by used automobiles, televisions and other personal property to borrowers with historically lower credit scores. Competition for loans also comes from non-depository financial service companies entering the mortgage market, such as insurance companies, securities companies and specialty finance companies. The bank is subject to regulation, examination and supervision by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, as its federal regulator, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, as the deposit insurer.
