Haverty Furniture Companies Inc is a retailer of residential furniture and accessories. It sells home furnishings in its retail stores and via its website and offers mattresses products such as Sealy, Serta, Stearns & Foster, and Tempur-Pedic.

Haverty Furniture Companies Inc originated as a family business in 1885 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Company is a specialty retailer of residential furniture and accessories. Its customers are generally college educated women in middle to upper-middle income households. The Company also tailors its product offerings to the needs and tastes of the local markets it serves emphasizing more coastal, western or urban looks as appropriate. It offers nationally mattress product lines such as Sealy, Serta, Stearns & Foster, and Tempur-Pedic. It operates 119 stores serving 80 cities in 16 states with approximately 4.3 million retail square feet in the Southern and Midwest regions. The store's curb appeal is important to the type of middle to upper-middle income consumer that it targets and its use of classical facades and attractive landscaping complements the quality and style of its merchandise. The Company's website has proven to be useful in reaching the growing number of consumers that use the internet to pre-shop before going to a store. The site also provides its sales associates a tool to further engage the customer while she is in the store and extend her shopping experience when she returns home. Its site allows consumers to develop wish lists, place orders on-line and set delivery of their purchases. The Company buys its merchandise from numerous foreign and domestic manufacturers and importers. Almost all of its wood products, or case goods, are generally imported from Asia. Upholstered items are largely produced domestically, with the exception of its leather products which are primarily imported from Asia or Mexico. It purchases its furniture merchandise produced in Asia through agents representing manufacturers and direct from manufacturers. The Company competes with numerous individual retail furniture stores as well as chains and certain department stores. Its operations are required to meet federal, state and local regulatory standards in the areas of safety, health and environmental pollution controls.
