Ambac Financial Group Inc is a financial services holding company, and operates two reportable business segments Financial Guarantee and Financial Services. It is a guarantor of public finance and structured finance obligations.

Ambac provides insurance and other financial services. Its businesses are in runoff, so they are no longer writing new business. The financial guarantee segment includes insurance policies and credit derivative contracts that protect Ambac's clients against default on debt obligations its clients hold. Ambac has exposure to public finance obligations, consisting primarily of municipal bonds; structured finance obligations, including mortgages and student loans; and international finance obligations, consisting of obligations outside the United States. The financial services segment provides financial and investment products, primarily to clients of its financial guarantee business. The company earns revenue from insurance premiums and investment income.
