The stock market has been relatively choppy over the last 12 months. However, the main upward-trending movement has prevailed amidst the storm, which in general, tends to be a good thing for the market. This is because both long-term and short-term investors can benefit by employing different investing strategies.
For long-term investors, if the upward trending movement is maintained, then they are likely to hold on to their stocks longer while adding to their positions when pullbacks occur. On the other hand, short-term investors have capitalized on the short-term pullbacks and rebounds in the market by buying and selling at

Investor confidence in economic growth remains strong as the financial fundamentals continue to support a robust outlook, Gondor Capital Management Portfolio Manager Vincent Au commented.
Au, who heads the New York-based hedge fund management firm, said he disagrees with the assessment of some financial analysts that the drop in the financials sector in a falling-interest-rate environment is an indication of "lacking vote of confidence about economic growth.
“I do not believe so,” Au stated and added, “I believe confidence in economic growth is strong.”
He also dismissed speculation that the 9% drop in financials, comprised of an array of financial

We focused primarily on their economic and tax plans to look at what changes might affect the investment world. We’ll go through the candidates in alphabetical order by first name – Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Ted Cruz. Before we dive into our picks and pans for a Cruz presidency, I want to explain a little bit about how we will approach things.

Investment brokerage stocks have fallen sharply since the start of 2016 with a majority losing between 20% and 30% of their market value.
However, they now appear to have found a bottom with Goldman Sachs (GS) leading the marks. Shares of Goldman Sachs dropped from $182 at the end of December last year to about $140 per share last week before rebounding to the current level of about $150.
Goldman Sachs wasn’t the only investment brokerage firm to experience such a sharp decline. TD Ameritrade (AMTD) dropped from about $35 per share to about $25 per share before rallying back

Bacon made 166 new buys in the first quarter of 2015. His most significant purchase was Signet Jewelers Ltd (SIG), a Bermuda-based specialty retail jeweler. Bacon bought 250,000 shares of Signet Jewelers for an average price of $123.89 per share. The transaction had a 0.77% impact on his portfolio.
2013 seemed to be the year when the quality, valuations, and risks of businesses ceased to matter to most stock market participants. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Composite Index (“S&P 500”) remarkable rise for the year was its best return since 1997 during the run-up of the technology bubble. The ten best performing names in the S&P 500 had extremely high returns, while carrying an average price-to-earnings multiple of 58. Among these top performers were a struggling retailer (Best Buy Co., Inc.), a recently bankrupt airline (Delta Air Lines, Inc.),
