Air Methods  (NAS:AIRM) Cost per Available Seat Mile (Cents) Explanation

Cost per Available Seat Mile (Cents) reflects the costs incurred by an airline to fly a single-seat mile, which is obtained by dividing the operating costs of an airline by Available Seat Miles (Mil). It is a widely used measurement to compare the efficiency of airlines. It can be combined with Total Revenue per Available Seat Mile (Cents) to arrive at a revenue-to-expense comparison, which can be helpful when compared with competitors or benchmarks.

Moreover, although Cost per Available Seat Mile (Cents) is a comprehensive measurement of airline costs, it’s important that investors are aware of its composition. For example, it’s not as reliable because it excluded several important non-operating expenses and some carriers exclude fuel costs from operating expenses.
