The First Investors Management Company is an investment management firm based out of New York. The company was established in 1930 and was one of the first companies to offer mutual funds in the United States. First Investors Management is headed by Chairman and Director William M. Lipkus and has 57 employees of which 19 are investment professionals. The company joined the Independent Order of Foresters in 2011 and has been operating as its subsidiary ever since and now has over 550 financial services representatives in 26 states. First Investors Management has a long term perspective, investing through a conservative approach that focuses on minimizing fund volatility. The company utilizes a fundamental methodology to invest in public equity and fixed income markets on a global scale. First Investors Management invests most heavily in the health care and consumer discretionary sectors, which each make up over a sixth of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the information technology, industrials, finance, consumer staples, and energy sectors, among others to a lesser degree, in order of decreasing allocation. The company currently holds over $11 billion in total assets under management spread across 46 accounts, all of which are discretionary accounts. Although its total number of accounts has been relatively unchanging in recent years with minimal volatility, its total assets under management has been increasing steadily, growing significantly from $5.6 billion back in 2010 to almost twice that amount today. First Investors Management mainly caters to investment companies, which alone makes up well over three quarters of its total client base, and also provides its services to other clientele to a lesser degree. The company currently offers a variety of mutual funds including its Equity Income, Global, International, Opportunity, Special Situations, Floating Rate, Investment Grade, Total Return, and various tax exempt funds, among others.
