The company utilizes a bottom up investment approach with quantitative and fundamental analysis to make its investment decisions. Santa Barbara Asset Management invests in the growth stocks of large cap companies in public equity markets on a global scale, benchmarking its progresses against various MSCI, S&P, and Russell indexes. The company invests most heavily in the finance sector, which alone makes up almost a fifth of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the consumer discretionary, health care, information technology, consumer staples, utilities and telecommunications, materials, and industrials sectors, among others to a lesser degree, in order of decreasing allocation. Holds over $4.7 billion in total assets under management spread across over 3,750 accounts, all of which are discretionary. Although its total number of accounts has decreased drastically from approximately 12,000 five years ago, its total assets under management has increased in recent years despite some volatility, growing from $3.9 billion back in 2010 to its current amount, although it reached as low as $2.6 billion in 2012. Santa Barbara Asset Management mainly caters to individuals, which alone makes up over two thirds of its client base, and also provides its services to high net worth individuals, pension and profit sharing plans, charities, investment companies, pooled investment vehicles, corporations, state or municipal entities, and investment advisors, in order of decreasing clientele. The company’s family of mutual funds current includes its Dividend Growth, Global Dividend Growth, and International Dividend Growth products.
