Long time follower of Gurufocus and first time Contributor here. I wanted to use my first article to share the list of Books that I have found most useful through my Journey as an Investor.

These are the Books (mostly related to Value Investing) I beleive will lay a firm foundation for Stock Market Investing either as a Professional or an Individual.

Sure Speculations/Technical Indicators might work from time to time but to guarantee yourself good Long Term Investing Results you have to get the Core Concepts yourself and these are the Books that help you get there.

Although there are many good Books out there on this topic, these are the ones to tough it out and reach the Top10 List for me

1. The Intelligent Investor: The Definitive Book on Value Investing. A Book of Practical Counsel (Revised Edition) by Benjamin Graham Best Book for Individual Investors. Page to page, most Valuable Book you'll read if used correctly. Don't leave it until you get the concepts of Intrinsic Value, Margin of Safety and Mr.Market and after that you'll never think of Investing the same as you did before and you'll be much better at ignoring the Short-term

Market Noise/CNBC

Analysis: Principles and Techniques[/url]
by Benjamin Graham

The Holy Grail. Just like Bible, most People quote it but never finish the entire thing

3. Margin of Safety: Risk-Averse Value Investing Strategies for the Thoughtful Investor by Seth A. Klarman

Extremely hard to find. Equally hard to put down once you get your hands on it. "Risk should never take a backseat for expected Return" preaches Klarman. 100% True.

4. One Up On Wall Street : How To Use What You Already Know To Make Money In The Market by Peter Lynch

Should be one of the first Books you read on Investing. Simple to understand/use concepts and will hopefully help you in identifying good Companies (probably the ones you already use in daily Life) before Wall Street catches on or turn around situations (Examples for 2000s - Chipotle, Apple, Priceline, Amazon)

5. Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits and Other Writings (Wiley Investment Classics) by Philip A. Fisher

Excellent Book to find good Companies, understand when to buy and when to sell.

6. The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons for Corporate America, Second Edition by Warren Buffett

Since Buffett never wrote a Book (unlikely to), this is your All in One reference for Buffett Wisdom across decades.

7. Reminiscences of a Stock Operator (Wiley Investment Classics) by Edwin Lefevre

Extremely Insightful/funny/sad and makes you look at your own mistakes.

8. Classics: An Investor's Anthology by Charles Ellis

Tough to find except for Online. Great Collection of Articles, will help you understand the Thinking/Psychology of various great Investors.

9. Extraordinary Popular Delusions and The Madness of Crowds by Charles MacKay

You got to know the past to minimize your Failures in the Future. Excellent excellent Account of past manias/panics.

10. You Can Be a Stock Market Genius: Uncover the Secret Hiding Places of Stock Market Profits by Joel Greenblatt

Lame Title for an otherwise Excellent Book that gets into various Special Situations Investing.Might not be useful for a starting Individual Investor but good concepts to know none the less. If you can only read few Pages, go straight to the Chapter on "Options". Invaluable if used correctly."

Some of the Books that narrowly missed making the Top10 List for me are

Buffett: The Making of an American Capitalist by Roger Lowenstein

F Wall Street: Joe Ponzio's No-Nonsense Approach to Value Investing For the Rest of Us

Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion (Collins Business Essentials) by Robert B. Cialdini

The Secrets of Economic Indicators: Hidden Clues to Future Economic Trends and Investment Opportunities, 2nd Edition by Bernard Baumohl
