Donald Yacktman is big shareholder of News Corp. (NWS), Rupert Murdoch's company which will split in two, according to announcements today. Here are some notes on Yacktman's interview about the split below:
- Thinks newspaper business is an “icecube”
- Thinks this creates two different business models and will allow for a proper multiple on the growing business
- Won’t discuss whether he is going to add to his position
- He would prefer the wind at his back rather than in his fact (meaning the publishing side of the business is not likely to get any additional capital from him)
- Thinks there is sufficient “bench strength” to assume duties from Murdoch
