Highlight of Business Operations:

Net sales increased to $188.1 million for the three months ended October 27, 2012, compared to $187.5 million for the three months ended October 29, 2011. This increase in net sales was primarily driven by an increase in comparable premium retail store sales(1) of 7.3 percent, partially offset by the impact of store closures and a decrease of 5.7 percent in our direct sales.

Gross profit was $66.1 million, or 35.1 percent of net sales, for the three months ended October 27, 2012, compared to $56.3 million, or 30.0 percent of net sales, for the three months ended October 29, 2011. This increase in gross profit margin was primarily due to increased leverage of buying and occupancy costs, and improvements in merchandise margins reflecting improved product performance.

Selling, general and administrative expenses (“SG&A”) were $76.1 million, or 40.5 percent of net sales, for the three months ended October 27, 2012, compared to $84.5 million, or 45.1 percent of net sales, for the three months ended October 29, 2011. The decrease of $8.4 million in SG&A was primarily due to lower marketing expenses.

The $2.4 million decrease in direct segment net sales for the three months ended October 27, 2012 as compared to the three months ended October 29, 2011 is primarily the result of a 2.2 percent decrease in average transaction value, partially offset by a 1.3 percent increase in order volume.
