Good morning, everyone, and welcome to the interim group results for the 6 months ended 31 August 2023. It's with great pride that I present the first set of results as CEO of the group, and has been a challenging first 100 days in the position, but we are satisfied with the performance during the period, notwithstanding a tough trading environment.
As with many retailers, the constrained economic environment, higher interest rates and costs associated with load-shedding contributed to a weaker performance by the group over the prior comparative period. In the current financial year, the group has also been impacted by the base effects of the prior year's performance, which were distinctly different across the 2 halves of the year, with the first half of the prior year delivering a strong performance when compared to the second half of the prior year. A more equal distribution, which we will unpack as we go through the presentation of earnings is expected in the current financial year.
