Weekly highlight of top CEO buys. Companies of the Week: Dell Inc. (DELL, Financial), CapitalSource Inc. (CSE, Financial), Western Alliance Ban Corp. (WAL, Financial), J.C. Penney Company Inc. (JCP, Financial), World Fuel Services Corp. (INT, Financial).


Dell Inc. (DELL): Chairman and CEO, Director, 10% Owner Michael S. Dell Bought 4,503,600 Shares


Dell, Inc. (DELL) will expand their software business, especially their information technology support systems. For the quarter, the computer maker posted steady first quarter profits on solid laptop sales overseas. Dell plans to cut $3 billion in costs by 2011. The company’s earnings rose 4% to $784 million on revenue of $16.08 billion. The company shares have been traded between $18.13 and $30.77 in the past year.


George Soros, Robert Olstein, and Glenn Greenberg both bought shares of DELL in the past quarter.


Mason Hawkins, Wallace Weitz, Charles Brandes, Chris Davis, Brian Rogers, Sarah Ketterer, John Rogers, Kenneth Fisher, Bill Nygren, and Arnold Schneider kept their holdings unchanged. Dodge & Cox reduced his DELL holdings by half, and Jean-Marie Eveillard nearly sold out all his DELL holdings.

CapitalSource Inc. (CSE): Chairman and CEO, Director John K. Delaney Bought 350,000 Shares


Specialized finance company CapitalSource, Inc., (CSE) declared their second quarter dividend at $0.60 per share. Late June, Capital Source offered 30 million shares of stock. The company shares are current at their 52-week lows. Capital Source plans to acquire lender Chevy Chase, who owns $3 billion in cash investments. Also CapitalSource will buy bank Fremont General Corporation for $58 million.


Pres. Structured Fin. Bus. Michael C Szwajkowski, Chairman and CEO, Director John K. Delaney and Capital Partners Farallon bought 9,000 shares, 350,000 shares, and 18 million shares respectively on 6/27/08 at $11.


CapitalSource Inc. has a market cap of $2.57 billion; its shares were traded at around $10.9 with a P/E ratio of 21.21 and P/S ratio of 4.26. The dividend yield of CapitalSource Inc. stocks is 22.06%.


Western Alliance Ban Corp. (WAL): Chairman, President and CEO, Director Robert Gary Sarver Bought 302,000 Shares


The shares of Alliance Bancorporation, (WAL) a bank holding company, struck a 52-week low, after the company raised $30.2 million in private placement. Analysts cut earnings outlook to $0.57 from $0.60 for the year.

J.C. Penney Company Inc. (JCP): Chairman and CEO, Director Myron E. Ullman III Bought 27,000 Shares


J. C. Penney Company, Inc. (JCP) will cut costs down to $650 million in order to pass the weak economic market. The department chain cut the number of planned new stores from 36 to 20 for this year. In May, same store-sales dropped 4.4%; the retailer expects this trend to continue through June. JC Penney set their quarterly dividend at $0.20 per share. The company’s quarterly profits declined nearly 50%, as sales lower 5.1% to $4.13 billion. JCP stock has lost around 40% its value within the past year. In the quarter that ended in May, their income totaled $120 million or $0.54 compared to a prior $238 million or $1.04 per share.
