China and Fed Uncertainty Keep U.S. Market Volatile

S&P 500 is down 1% so far this month

U.S. equity market indexes ended the day higher on Thursday, Sept. 10. The S&P 500 was up 0.51%, led by the technology sector up 1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.46%, led by Apple (AAPL, Financial) up 2.2%. Market volatility continues to remain prevalent in September with the major stock market indexes down for the month. In September, the S&P 500 is down 1.01% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 1.19%. Uncertainty about China’s economy and the Fed’s decision on an interest rate increase have been the two main drivers for the month’s volatility. In a recent interview with TheStreet, Luke Tilley of Wilmington Trust discussed his thoughts on China and the Fed’s September meeting.
