In less than two weeks Warren Buffett will report his portfolios for the third quarter of 2008. GuruFocus is once again holding the quarterly contest, inviting users to participate the contest guessing what stocks Warren Buffett bought in the last quarter.

The stock market had one of its worst quarters. The market was indiscriminate at the quality of the companies. Stock market valuations are at the lowest level in two decades. Not surprisingly, Warren Buffett is busy doing all kind of deals. The widely reported ones are with Goldman Sachs (GS, Financial) and General Electric (GE, Financial). The terms of these deals are so favorable that he can only get them at time like this.

On Oct 16, Warren Buffett wrote an op-ed on New York Times titled “Buy America, I am”. He said that he expected the stock market return over the next decade would outperform cash substantially. He is now 100% in stocks in his personal portfolio. What stocks did he buy?

We are aware that Warren Buffett bought more Burlington Northern lately. He also sells put on BNI with strike prices at $80 or below. During the second quarter, as we reported on August 14, Berkshire Hathaway Buys NRG Energy Inc., Adds to IngersollRand Company Ltd. and SanofiAventis, sells AnheuserBusch Companies Inc, Warren Buffett may also bought ConocoPhillips (COP), but he kept the information confidential.

But what did he buy in the third quarter? This is the contest. Since we did not have winners for the last quarter’s contest, we will have up to 4 winners for this contest. User Vooch insisted that he has won the last contest. If what he guessed was right last time, he will be one of the winners for this contest.

We would like to invite everyone to participate this contest. The winners will each win a copy of great investment book selecting from this list:
