Barrow Slashes Stake in Walmart by 72%

Guru reduced 140 stakes in his portfolio in 4th quarter

James Barrow (Trades, Portfolio), executive director of investment firm Barrow, Hanley, Mewhinney & Strauss and the lead portfolio manager for the Vanguard Windsor II and Selected Value Funds, reduced 140 stakes in his portfolio in the fourth quarter. Most – but not all – of the reductions were modest.

Following are his largest reductions of the quarter.

The guru scaled down his stake in Walmart Stores (WMT, Financial), a Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer, by almost 72%. Barrow sold 12,044,813 shares for an average price of $60.14 per share. The transaction had a -1.2% impact on Barrow’s portfolio.

The reduction left Barrow with a stake of 4,771,345 shares.

Warren Buffett (Trades, Portfolio) is Walmart’s leading shareholder among the gurus with 56,185,293 shares in his portfolio. Buffett’s stake is 1.75% of Walmart’s outstanding shares and 2.86% of the guru’s total assets.
