US Market Indexes Higher With Technology Leading Gains

Nasdaq trades above 5,000, and S&P 500 reaches new high

U.S. market indexes were higher Monday with the Standard & Poor's 500 closing at a new high.

For the day the S&P 500 closed at 2,137.16 for a gain of 7.26 points or 0.34%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 18,226.93 for a gain of 80.19 points or 0.44%. The Nasdaq Composite closed higher at 4,988.64 for a gain of 31.88 points or 0.64%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher on Monday at 13.56 for a gain of 0.36 points or 2.73%.

In the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the following stocks led gains for the day:

The day’s leading economic report was the Labor Market Conditions Index. On Monday the report showed an improvement for the month of June. The Index was at -1.9 for the month which was above the prior revised reading of -3.6.

Technology was a leading sector for the day with the following stocks leading gains:

For the day, the Nasdaq traded above 5,000 for the first time. Technology stocks gained across the board Monday. In a CNBC report, market specialists discussed the tech sector’s gains and some of the leading tech stocks in the market.
