Tom Gayner (Trades, Portfolio), executive vice president and chief investment officer of Markel Corp. and president of Markel Gayner Asset Management Inc., the investment subsidiary of Markel Corp., bought shares in the following stocks in the first and second quarters of 2016:

Boeing Co. (BA)

During the first quarter of 2016, the guru increased his stake by 6.25% and in the second quarter, again bought shares in the company with another increase of 229.41%. The company  designs, develops, manufactures, sells and supports commercial jetliners, military aircraft, satellites, missile defense, human space flight and launch systems and services.

The Hershey Co. (HSY)

During the first quarter of 2016, the investor increased his stake by 36.67% and in the second quarter boosted it again by 46.95%. The investor currently holds 0.01% of outstanding shares of the stock. The company is engaged in manufacturing, marketing, selling and distributing chocolate and sugar confectionery products, pantry items, such as baking ingredients, toppings and beverages, and gum and mint refreshment products.

The company designs, manufactures and markets mobile communication and media devices, personal computers and portable digital music players. It sells a variety of related software, services, accessories, networking solutions and third-party digital content.

Warren Buffett (Trades, Portfolio) is the largest shareholder of the company among the gurus, with 0.28% of outstanding shares, followed by Ken Fisher (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.21%, Spiros Segalas (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.2%, Pioneer Investments (Trades, Portfolio) with 0.16% and Jeremy Grantham (Trades, Portfolio) and David Einhorn (Trades, Portfolio) both with 0.13%.

Facebook Inc. Class A. (FB)

During the first quarter of 2016, the guru increased his stake by 300% and raised it by 117.86% in the second quarter. The company operates a social networking website. Its products are Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and Oculus. Its products enable people to connect and share through mobile devices and personal computers.

Microsoft is engaged in designing, manufacturing and selling devices and online advertising. Its products include operating systems for computing devices, servers, phones and other devices.
