Endurance International Group was inspired by legendary Sir Ernest Shackleton when it was facing tremendous adversity after the dot-com crash. Shackleton's goal was to cross Antarctica from sea to sea. However, shortly after the expedition began, disaster struck. The ship, named the Endurance, was crushed by pack ice. Shackleton's new goal was to survive the next nine months while keeping his 28-man crew alive during the thousand-mile trek across pack ice.

It was Shackleton's story that kept Endurance International CEO Hari Ravichandran motivated when he was down to 14 employees after the dot-com crash.
