In the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the following stocks led losses:

Economic reports on the calendar for the day included motor vehicle sales, the PMI Manufacturing Index, the ISM Manufacturing Index and construction spending. Motor vehicle sales were delayed due to a fire at Ford’s (F, Financial) headquarters; however the results for North America appear to be on track for a gain with an estimated 14.4 million SAAR versus 14.2 million SAAR in September. Consensus is for total vehicle sales of 17.3 million SAAR to 17.8 million SAAR. The PMI Manufacturing Index was reported at 53.4 after 51.5 in the previous month. The ISM Manufacturing Index was reported at 51.9 after 51.5 in the previous month. Construction spending was down 0.4% from the previous month and -0.2% from a year ago.

Stocks were lower Tuesday as election and Fed uncertainty continued. A CNBC report discussed the day’s trading in more detail with a focus on market effects from the election and emerging markets.
