New Feature Announcement: Excel User-Defined Functions

Powerful GURUF function to download all financial data and create your proprietary Excel worksheets

We are very pleased to announce that we have released GuruFocus Excel User-Defined Functions. This function is called GURUF. GURUF works just like existing Excel functions such as SUM, COUNT, etc., but is much more powerful. With GURUF you can call and get all the historical financial data and key statistics data of more than 70,000 stocks that are traded on the world markets.

With GURUF function, you will be able to create your proprietary methods of looking at ownership and financial information via spreadsheets. Updating the spreadsheets is just one mouse click.

If you have not done so, please come to GuruFocus Excel Add-in page to download GuruFocus Excel Add-in. After that, please follow these steps to activate GURUF:

  1. Open Excel and log in to GuruFocus Excel Add-In. There will be a new tab with a button that says "Insert Guru Functions." Please see the screenshot below:

  1. Click on the button. It will download the new Excel User-Defined Functions from GuruFocus’ website. Then click "OK" to install. Please click "OK" for all test steps.
  2. Close Excel. When you restart, the functions should be ready.
  3. Click on "Login" again to log in your account.
  4. Type in any cell "=GURUF("AAPL","price")" and you should get the current price for AAPL stock.
  5. If you are not sure the name of the parameter you want to call, click on “Insert Guru Function” again. A pop-up window will appear and you will be able to enter from there. Please see the screenshot below:

  1. Click on the "Guru Functions Reference" button to find out how to get all other parameters.
  2. The function should now support all current key statistics and financial data of all stocks in the global market.

This function should work for all Excel versions of 2007 or later. Like all Excel user-defined-functions, it works for Windows PC only. It does not work for MAC.

Update: Both Premium members and PremiumPlus members have full access to the function. Premium members are limited to 2000 function calls a month. PremiumPlus can have up to unlimited function calls a month.

This is a sample Excel file with GURUF function. Please feel free to download and play with it.
