U.S. market indexes were lower on Monday. For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 20052.42 for a loss of -19.04 points or -0.09%. The S&P 500 Index closed at 2292.56 for a loss of -4.86 points or -0.21%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 5663.55 for a loss of -3.21 points or -0.06%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher for the day at 11.37 for a gain of 0.40 points or 3.65%.

Monday’s market movers

Stocks were lower on Monday with mixed earnings results and uncertainty over the president’s new executive orders for financial services regulation. The Federal Reserve’s Labor Market Conditions Index was the leading economic report for the day. The Index increased to 1.3 from 0.6.

In the broad market, energy stocks led losses. Technology reported gains with the S&P 500 technology sector up 0.06%.

In small-caps, the Russell 2000 Index closed at 1366.66 for a loss of -11.18 points or -0.81%. The S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 833.76 for a gain of -7.58 points or -0.90%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Growth TSM Index closed at 8117.95 for a loss of -62.18 points or -0.76%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Value TSM Index closed at 9704.71 for a loss of -69.12 points or -0.71%.
