U.S. market indexes regained some of their losses from political worries on Thursday.

For the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 20,663.02 for a gain of 56.09 points or 0.27%. The Standard & Poor's 500 closed at 2,365.72 for a gain of 8.69 points or 0.37%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,055.13 for a gain of 43.89 points or 0.73%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower for the day ending at 14.66 for a decrease of 0.93 points or 5.97%.

Economic data helped stock market investors regain confidence on Thursday. Economic reports released for the day included the following:

  • Jobless claims decreased by 4,000 for the week.
  • The Leading Indicators Index was reported at consensus with an increase of 0.3% for the month.
