The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,429.08 for a loss of 31.10 points or 0.48%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower at 10.46 for a loss of 0.04 points or 0.38%.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average reported a new high on Thursday. Other U.S. market indexes were mostly lower with losses from consumer discretionary and technology.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- The Consumer Price Index reported a 0.4% increase for the month and a 1.9% increase for the year.
- Jobless claims decreased by 14,000 to 284,000.

The Dow Jones Small-Cap Growth TSM Index closed at 8,701.95 for a loss of 10.85 points or 0.12%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Value TSM Index closed at 9,582.62 for a loss of 12.14 points or 0.13%.
