US Market Indexes Lower on Thursday

U.S. market indexes were lower Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 23,860.46 for a loss of -1032.89 points or -4.15%. The S&P 500 closed at 2,581.00 for a loss of -100.66 points or -3.75%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,777.16 for a loss of -274.82 points or -3.90%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher at 33.66 for a gain of 5.93 points or 21.38%.

Thursday’s market movers

Stocks reported another day of substantial losses with the Dow Jones falling -1,032.89 points. Treasury yields continued to be a factor with the 10-year Treasury yield reaching an intraday high of 2.875%.

Jobless claims was the only market moving report on the economic calendar Thursday. Jobless claims decreased 9,000 to 221,000.

The Dow Jones Small-Cap Growth TSM Index closed at 9,056.68 for a loss of -304.55 or -3.25%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Value TSM Index closed at 9,566.03 for a loss of -269.94 points or -2.74%.
