The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 26,743.50 on Friday with a gain of 86.52 points or 0.32%. The S&P 500 closed at 2,929.67 for a loss of -1.08 points or -0.04%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 7,986.96 for a loss of -41.28 points or -0.51%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower at 11.68 for a loss of -0.12 points or -1.02%.

For the week, the Nasdaq was down -0.3%, the Dow Jones gained 2.2% and the S&P 500 gained 0.8%.

Year to date, the Nasdaq Composite has a gain of 16.71%, the S&P 500 has gained 10.95% and the Dow Jones has a return of 9.60%.

The Dow Jones managed to report its second consecutive closing record high on Friday while most other major U.S. market indexes ended with losses. Consumer discretionary and technology stocks led losses for the day.
