I am constantly scouring the news to hear if any famous gurus will be speaking or spoke on CNBC, Blomberg or other networks. Usually the guru they try to get is Warren Buffett since he is by far the most famous; however, on occasion they will interview other gurus including Joel Greenblatt, or Bruce Berkowitz.

I was surprised to find some videos of interviews with Warren Buffett that I did not know took place. I found a short video posted several months ago, where Warren Buffett talks about Benjamin Graham. I am not sure who took the interview with Buffett. I do not think the video was broadcast on a major network, and that is probably a reason why I did not hear of it beforehand.

The video is titled “Warren Buffett on Ben Graham”. Buffett in the video states, that the luckiest day of his life, was when he was 19 years old and picked up the Intelligent Investor. He says while he may “embellish on it here or there” his ideas on investment have not changed since that day. Buffett states how a year later he went to Columbia and took a class with Graham as his professor.

After college he wanted to work for Graham, but Graham stated that he “was overpriced”. However, a few years later Graham offered Buffett a job albeit with no salary. Buffett says that their friendship lasted for another 45 years. Buffett named his first son Howard Graham Buffett; Howard, for Buffett’s father, and Graham, for Benjamin Graham.

Buffett states how remarkable it was to write Security Analysis in 1934. Buffett remarks that Graham probably started writing the book in 1932 during the heart of the Great Depression and the stock market crash, yet he was able to stay disciplined and see the long term. Buffett also states the book is a remarkable achievement because even today the book is widely used.

Buffett comments several times throughout the video how kind Graham was and of his care for others.
