EDAP TMS jumps more than 40% on earnings results

U.S. market indexes were mixed on Tuesday, with the Dow slipping 80 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.30% to 26,179, the S&P 500 index was flat at 2,867 and the Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 0.25% to 7,848.

Shares of EDAP TMS S.A. (EDAP, Financial) climbed more than 40% on Tuesday after the company announced fourth-quarter results. Revenue grew 25% from the prior-year quarter to 13.3 million euros ($15.1 million), beating estimates by approximately 2.9 million euros.

"We are very pleased to report our fifth consecutive year of growth during 2018, achieving total revenue of 39.2 million euros," CEO Marc Oczachowski said. "As announced, one of the major milestones during the year was FDA clearance of Focal One in June, and just six months later, we completed the first U.S. sale of Focal One to the John Wayne Cancer Institute. We followed that up with three additional U.S. Focal One sales in less than sixty days. Our HIFU sales and marketing development teams have also been very active outside of the U.S., with the opening of new markets and further expansion in existing countries such as Brazil.”

The gross profit was 6 million euros, up from 4.4 million euros in the year-ago quarter. The gross profit margin was 45%.

The operating profit was 0.8 million euros, compared to an operating loss of 0.2 million euros last year.

The main European stock markets traded higher. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 advanced 1.01%, France's CAC 40 gained 0.33%, Germany's Dax rose 0.62% and Spain's IBEX 35 swelled 0.23%.

In Asia, Japan's Nikkei 225 slid 0.02%, India’s BSE Sensex rose 0.48%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng advanced 0.21% and China's Shanghai Composite gained 0.20%.
