Atlantic American Corp, a Georgia corporation incorporated in 1968. It is a holding Atlantic American Corporation, a Georgia corporation incorporated in 1968, is a holding company that operates through its subsidiaries in specialty markets within the life and health, as well as property and casualty insurance industries. In property and casualty operations, the Company, through its operating subsidiary American Southern, provides Business Automobile Insurance, General Liability Insurance, and Property Insurance. Business Automobile Insurance provides bodily injury and/or property damage liability coverage, uninsured motorist coverage and physical damage coverage for commercial accounts. General Liability Insurance policies cover bodily injury and property damage liability for both premises and completed operations exposures for general classes of business. Property Insurance policies provides for payment of losses on personal property caused by fire or other perils. In addition, the Company along with American Southern provides Surety Bonds to a third party where the third party will fulfill the obligations in accordance to a contractual agreement. American Southern directly provides surety bond coverage for school bus transportation and subdivision construction, as well as performance and payment bonds. It also provides personal property, inland marine and general liability coverage. Further, it provides tailored business automobile insurance coverage on a contract basis to state governments, local municipalities and other large motor pools and fleets that can be specifically rated and underwritten. American Southern is licensed to do business in 32 states and the District of Columbia. Its business is marketed through independent agents. It competes with other companies who are in the property and casualty area of operations. Through Bankers Fidelity, the Company's operating subsidiary comprises the life and health operations of the Company and offers life and supplemental health products with a focus on the senior markets. Products offered by Bankers Fidelity include ordinary and term life insurance, Medicare supplement and other accident and health insurance products. It markets its policies through three distribution channels which include traditional independent agents, broker-agents and special market agents. The life and health insurance business competes with Blue Cross / Blue Shield, Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company, Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance Company, Mutual of Omaha, Oxford Life Insurance Company, United Commercial Travelers of America, United World Life Insurance Company, among others.
