Axcelis Technologies Inc designs, manufactures and services ion implantation and other processing equipment used in the fabrication of semiconductor chips. It also provides aftermarket lifecycle products and services.

Axcelis Technologies Inc was incorporated in Delaware on December 21, 1995. The Company designs, manufactures and services ion implantation and other processing equipment used in the fabrication of semiconductor chips. It also provides after-market life-cycle products and services, including used tools, spare parts, equipment upgrades, maintenance services and customer training. The principal market for semiconductor manufacturing equipment is semiconductor manufacturers. Substantially all sales are made directly by the Company to its customers located in the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific. The Company's ion implantation systems product line includes high current, medium current and high energy implanters. Other products include legacy dry strip equipment, curing systems, and thermal processing systems. In addition to new equipment, the Company provides post-sales equipment service and support, including spare parts, equipment upgrades, used equipment, maintenance services and customer training. It sells equipment and services through direct sales force. The Company conducts sales and marketing activities from sales offices located in the United States, Taiwan, South Korea, China, Germany, Singapore and Italy. Its competitors include Applied Materials, Inc, Nissin Ion Implantation Co., Ltd., Advanced Ion Beam Technology, Inc. and SEN. The Company had 320 active patents issued in the United States and 427 active patents granted in other countries, as well as 205 patent applications (48 in the United States and 157 in other countries) on file with various patent agencies worldwide. The Company is subject to environmental laws and regulations in the countries in which it operates.
