Business Description

Ashford Hospitality Trust, Inc is a Maryland Corporation, which commenced operations in August 2003 with the acquisition of six hotels in connection with its initial public offering. The Company, together with its subsidiaries, is a self-advised real estate investment trust focused on investing in the hospitality industry across all segments and in all methods including direct real estate, securities, equity, and debt. The Company owns its lodging investments and conducts its business through Ashford Hospitality Limited Partnership, its operating partnership. Ashford OP General Partner LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the REIT, serves as the sole general partner of its operating partnership. The Company currently operates in two business segments within the hotel lodging industry: direct hotel investments and hotel financing. Direct hotel investments refer to owning hotels through either acquisition or new development. Hotel financing refers to owning subordinate hotel-related mortgage through acquisition or origination. The hotel industry is highly competitive and the hotels in which it invests are subject to competition from other hotels for guests. Its main competitors include other hotel operating companies, ownership companies (including hotel REITs) and national and international hotel brands. The Company's operations are subject to various federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
