Business Description

American Lorain Corporation is a Delaware Corporation that was incorporated on February 4, 1986 and was formerly known as Millennium Quest, Inc. The Company develops, manufactures, and sells convenience foods, chestnut products and frozen, canned, and bulk foods, in hundreds of varieties. Its products are divided into the three segments: chestnut products, convenience foods and frozen, canned and bulk food. Chestnut products are natural and do not contain chemical additives; Convenience food product includes Ready-to-cook food products, Ready-to-eat food products and Meals ready-to-eat food products; Frozen, Canned and Bulk Food including frozen vegetables, frozen fruits, frozen fish and frozen meats. The Company currently manufactures its products in China in three types of product lines; deep-freezing lines, canning lines and convenience food lines. Deep-freezing lines are used to freeze raw materials for year-round production and to produce frozen food; canning lines are used to produce canned products, including chestnut products; and convenience food lines are used for producing RTCs, RTEs and MREs. In 2011 and 2010, approximately 88% and 93% of its procured raw materials, respectively, consisted of agricultural products, including primarily chestnuts and vegetables, approximately 7% and 4%, respectively, consisted of packaging materials and approximately 5% and 3% consisted of condiments such as sugar, salt and flour. The Company grows and supplies a portion of its chestnut, fruit and vegetable products. The food products industries are highly competitive. The competitors in the frozen, canned and bulk food products market are currently Weitang Langdong, Yuyao Hongji Food Co. Ltd. and Yantai Pengshun Food Co. Ltd. The Company is subject to regulations of China's Agricultural Ministry.
