Alaska Communications Systems Group Inc was incorporated on October 1998 under the laws of the State of Delaware. The Company provides integrated communications services to consumer and business customers in and out of Alaska. The Company's communication network extends throughout Alaska, and connects businesses and household customers to its network offering voice, broadband and other services. Further, in other states the Company offers services through its network which includes two diverse undersea fiber optic cable systems: AKORN and Northstar. The Company provides its products and services to four customer categories: Business and Wholesale, Consumer, Other Services, Wireless and AWN Related customers. In Business and Wholesale category, the Company provides communication services such as voice and broadband, and managed services including data network hosting, IT management, cloud-based services, billing and collection, and long distance services on its network. The Company, along with Tekmate, provides managed services to business customers, such as monitoring and maintaining customers' information technology infrastructures. In Consumer category, the Company provides voice and broadband services to its residential customers. The Other Services provides voice and broadband termination services to inter and intrastate carriers who provide services to the Company's retail customers. In Wireless, it provides other value-added wireless products and services, such as wireless devices, across Alaska with roaming coverage available in the contiguous states, Hawaii and Canada by utilizing the AWN network. The Company's sales strategy combines direct and indirect distribution channels to retain current customers and drive additional sales growth. The direct channel is comprised of retail stores throughout the state, a direct sales team focused on business customers, and a network of agents focused on wireless services. For traditional voice and broadband services, the Company competes with GCI and AT&T on a statewide basis, and smaller providers such as Matanuska Telephone Association, Inc. on a more localized basis. For wireless services, it competes with AT&T, GCI, and soon with Verizon for retail service revenue.
