A O Smith Corp is a Delaware corporation organized in 1916. The Company is engaged in the manufacture and sale of water heaters and boilers, for residential and commercial end markets principally in the USA. The Company has two reporting segments: North America and Rest of World. Its Rest of World segment is primarily comprised of China, Europe and India. Both segments manufacture and market comprehensive lines of residential gas, gas tankless and electric water heaters and commercial water heating equipment. The North America segment also manufactures and markets specialty commercial water heating equipment, condensing and non-condensing boilers and water systems tanks. The Rest of World segment also manufactures and markets water treatment products, primarily for Asia. The Company offers electric, natural gas and liquid propane models as well as gas tankless and solar tank units for energy efficient homes. Its North America segment also manufactures and sells expansion tanks, commercial solar water heating systems, swimming pool and spa heaters, and related products and parts. The Companys residential and commercial water heaters come in sizes ranging from 2.5 gallon models to 12,500 gallon appliances with varying efficiency ranges. Its residential and commercial boilers range in size from 40,000 British Thermal Units to 5.0 million British Thermal Units. Its commercial boilers are used primarily in space heating applications including hospitals, schools, hotels and other large commercial buildings. In North America, the Company has 12 manufacturing plants located in five states and two non-U.S. countries, of which ten are owned directly by the Company or its subsidiaries and two are leased from outside parties. In rest of the world, the Company has seven manufacturing plants located in four non-U.S. countries. The Companys principal water heating and boiler competitors in North America include Rheem, Bradford White, Rinnai, Navien, Aerco and Cleaver-Brooks. Its primary competitor in China is Haier Appliances.
