Approach Resources Inc was incorporated in September 2002. The Company is an independent energy company focused on the exploration, development, production and acquisition of unconventional oil and gas reserves in the Midland Basin of the greater Permian Basin in West Texas. In West Texas, Company leased approximately 146,000 net acres as of December 31, 2013. The Company is currently developing resource potential from the Wolfcamp shale oil formation, and also includes drilling targets of Clearfork, Canyon Sands, Strawn and Ellenburger zones. It faces competition from companies that have greater resources and companies that explore for, produce and market oil and gas, carry on refining operations and market the end products on a worldwide basis. It also faces competition from alternative fuel sources, including coal, heating oil, imported LNG, nuclear and other nonrenewable fuel sources, and renewable fuel sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, hydropower and biomass. The Company is subject to extensive federal, state and local laws and regulations governing environmental protection as well as discharge of materials into the environment.
