Bridgepoint Education, Inc. was incorporated in Delaware in May 1999 under the name TeleUniversity, Inc. and it changed its name to Bridgepoint Education, Inc. in February 2004. It is a provider of postsecondary education services. The Company's regionally accredited academic institutions, Ashford University and University of the Rockies, offer associates, bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs online as well as at their traditional campuses located in Clinton, Iowa and Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Company's academic institutions, Ashford University and University of the RockiesSM, embody the contemporary college experience. It operate in one reportable segment as a single educational delivery operation using a core infrastructure that serves the curriculum and educational delivery needs of both our campus-based and online students regardless of geography. The Company is also focused on developing innovative new technologies to improve the way students learn, such as the mobile learning platforms for its institutions, Constellation, Thuze and Waypoint Outcomes. The Company competes mainly with public and private degree-granting regionally accredited colleges and universities. The Company is subject to regulation by the U.S. Department of Education due to its participation in federal student financial aid programs authorized by Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
