Canam Group Inc was founded on August 15, 1960. The Company is engaged in the design, manufacture and sale of construction products and services for the commercial, industrial, institutional, multi-residential and infrastructure construction industries. It operates 21 plants, including six in Canada and 15 in the United States. The Company carries out its business directly or through its subsidiaries. Its sector of activity is divided into three groups of products and services that are allotted to four business units: (i) buildings, i.e. steel joists and steel deck under the Canam business unit; (ii) structural steel, including heavy structural steel under the Structal-Heavy Steel Construction business unit and light structural steel under the FabSouth business unit; and (iii) bridges under the Structal-Bridges business unit. Its activities are carried out in Canada by the Company and in the United States by Canam Steel Corporation and FabSouth LLC and its subsidiaries. Structal-Heavy Steel Construction designs and fabricates heavy structural steel components and supplies structural steel for many North American construction projects, including sports complexes, convention centers, industrial complexes, airport facilities and office towers. FabSouth fabricates and erects light structural steel components primarily for the commercial, industrial and institutional construction markets throughout the United States. Structal-Bridges manufactures steel girders and other bridge components for the North American market. Structal-Bridges also designs and manufactures structural bearings and expansion joints marketed under the Goodco Z-Tech name for highway and airport infrastructures, buildings and bridges. Its trademarks include Canam, Murox, Hambro, Goodco Z-Tech, InteliBuild, Structal and United Steel Deck. The Company competes with Nucor (Vulcraft), Steel Dynamics (New Millennium), and EBSCO Industries (Valley Joist), Samuel Manu-Tech (Omega Joists) and Vicwest.
