Chesapeake Utilities Corp is a Delaware corporation that was formed in 1947. It is a utility company, which is involved directly, or through subsidiaries, in natural gas distribution, transmission and marketing, propane distribution and wholesale marketing, advanced information services and other related businesses. It is composed of four operating segments namely Natural Gas, which includes regulated natural gas distribution and transmission operations and also a non-regulated natural gas marketing operation; Propane, which includes non-regulated propane distribution and wholesale marketing operations; Advanced Information Services, which provides domestic and international clients with information-technology-related business services and solutions for both enterprise and e-business applications; and Other, which consists mainly of non-regulated operations that own real estate leased to other Company subsidiaries. It conducts its natural gas distribution operations under three divisions namely Delaware, Maryland, and Florida, which are based in their respective service territories. It distributes natural gas to residential, commercial and industrial customers in central and southern Delaware, the Salisbury and Cambridge areas on Maryland's Eastern Shore, and parts of Florida. These activities are conducted through three utility divisions, one in Delaware, and another in Maryland and a third in Florida. Propane is a form of liquefied petroleum gas, which is typically extracted from natural gas or separated during the crude oil refining process. The Company's retail propane distribution group consists of: Sharp Energy, Inc., Sharpgas, Inc., and Tri-County Gas Co., Inc. The Company's propane distribution operations purchase propane mainly from suppliers, including major oil companies, independent producers of natural gas liquids and from Xeron. Supplies of propane from these and other sources are readily available for purchase by the Company. The Company's advanced information services segment consists of BravePoint, Inc. headquartered in Norcross, Georgia, which provides domestic and international clients with information-technology-related business services and solutions for both enterprise and e-business applications.
