GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Curtiss-Wright Corp is a diversified manufacturing and service company. It designs, manufactures, and overhauls precision components and provides engineered products and services to the aerospace, defense, automotive, and metalworking industries.

Curtiss-Wright Corp, a Delaware corporation was incorporated in 1929. The Company is a manufacturing and service company that designs, manufactures, and overhauls precision components and systems and provides engineered products and services to the aerospace, defense, automotive, shipbuilding, processing, oil, petrochemical, agricultural equipment, railroad, power generation, security, and metalworking industries. The Company's core competence is to provide technologies for customers operating in harsh environments. Its products and services include critical-function pumps, valves, motors, generators, and electronics; aircraft flight controls, landing systems, ordnance handling, stabilization and utility actuation systems; as well as metallurgical enhancement of stressed components. It competes globally based on technology and pricing; however, engineering expertise is a limiting factor to competition, particularly in the U.S. government market. The Company operates through three segments: Commercial/Industrial, Defense, and Energy. The Commercial/Industrial reportable segment is comprised of businesses that provide a diversified offering of engineered products and services supporting critical applications across the commercial aerospace and general industrial markets. The products offered include electronic throttle control devices and transmission shifters, electro-mechanical actuation control components, valves, and surface technology services such as shot peening, laser peening, coatings, and testing. The Defense reportable segment is comprised of businesses that provide products to the defense markets and to a lesser extent the commercial aerospace market. The products offered include commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) embedded computing board level modules, integrated subsystems, turret aiming and stabilization products, weapons handling systems, avionics and electronics, flight test equipment, and aircraft data management solutions. The Power segment is comprised of businesses that provide products to the power generation markets and to a lesser extent the naval defense market. The products offered include main coolant pumps, power-dense compact motors, generators, secondary propulsion systems, pumps, pump seals, control rod drive mechanisms, fastening systems, specialized containment doors, airlock hatches, spent fuel management products, and fluid sealing products. The segment operates through four operating divisions: Electro-Mechanical Systems, Nuclear Group, Oil and Gas Systems, and Marine and Power Products. The Controls segment designs, develops, manufactures, and maintains mechanical actuation and drive systems, specialized sensors, motors and electronic controller units, and mission-critical embedded computing components and control systems. This segment is managed through four operating divisions: Defense Solution, Flight Systems, Avionics and Industrial, and Integrated Sensing. The Surface Technologies segment prov
