DSW Inc along with its subsidiaries operates as a branded footwear & accessories retailer. The Company offers women's footwear; men's footwear; athletic footwear; & also offers a complementary assortment of handbags, hosiery, jewelry & other accessories.

DSW Inc was incorporated in the state of Ohio on January 20, 1969. The Company is a branded footwear specialty retailer in the U.S. It offers a selection of branded dress, casual and athletic footwear for women and men, as well as accessories. It has two reportable segments: the DSW segment, which includes the DSW stores and dsw.com, and the Affiliated Business Group segment. It sells products through three channels: DSW stores, dsw.com and its Affiliated Business Group. The Company separates its merchandise into four primary categories: women's footwear; men's footwear; athletic footwear; and accessories and other. It also operates shoe departments for three retailers through its Affiliated Business Group segment. It also offers a complementary selection of handbags, hosiery and other accessories which appeal to its brand- and fashion-conscious customers. It operates in a competitive environment and views its main competitors to be department stores. It also competes with mall-based Company stores, national chains, independent shoe retailers, single-brand specialty retailers, online shoe retailers, multi-channel specialty retailers and brand-oriented discounters. The Company is subject to governmental laws and regulations.
