Ellington Financial LLC was formed as a Delaware limited liability company on July 9, 2007 and commenced operations on August 17, 2007. The Company is a specialty finance company that acquires and manages mortgage-related assets, including residential mortgage-backed securities, or RMBS, residential mortgage loans, commercial mortgage-backed securities, or CMBS, commercial mortgage loans and other commercial real estate debt, real property and mortgage-related derivatives. The Company also invests in corporate debt and equity securities, consumer loans and asset-backed securities backed by consumer and commercial assets, or ABS, non-mortgage-related derivatives and other financial assets, including private debt and equity investments in mortgage-related entities. The Company competes with mortgage REITs, specialty finance companies, savings and loan associations, banks, mortgage bankers, insurance companies, mutual funds, institutional investors, investment banking firms, financial institutions, governmental bodies, and other entities.
