GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

F5 Networks Inc is a developer and provider of software-defined application services designed to ensure that applications delivered over Internet Protocol (IP) networks are available to any user, anywhere, anytime, on any device and on any network.

F5 Networks Inc was incorporated on February 26, 1996 in the State of Washington. The Company provides Application Delivery Networking (ADN) technology that secures and optimizes the delivery of network-based applications and the security, performance and availability of servers, and other network resources. Its products are application delivery controllers (ADCs) that include its BIG-IP family of appliances and the line of scalable VIPRION systems. These products are deployed in front of web and application servers, balancing traffic and performing compute-intensive functions such as encrypting and un-encrypting transmissions, screening traffic for security threats, maintaining open connections with servers, speeding the flow of traffic, managing access to applications and data and a variety of other functions that improve the security, performance, and availability of applications. It also offers virtual editions of its ADN software that can run on physical or virtual servers and allow customers to deploy products in virtualized and cloud environments. With the purchase of Traffix Communication Systems Ltd. (Traffix Systems) in February 2012, the Company acquired a line of Diameter signaling products that enable full connectivity, enhanced scalability, and comprehensive control for telecommunications operators. These products enable operators to control their signaling networks effectively in the migration to next-generation networks. The Company's storage virtualization products simplify and reduce the cost of managing files and file storage devices, and ensure fast, secure, easy access to files for users and applications. In addition, the Company offers a range of services, such as consulting, training, installation, maintenance, and other technical support services. It serves technology, telecommunications, financial services, transportation, and manufacturing industries, as well as government customers. The Company markets its products and services through distributors, value-added resellers, and systems integrators. It has operations in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Japan, and the Asia Pacific. Competitors include Cisco Systems, Inc. Other competitors in this market include Citrix Systems, Inc., Brocade, Radware Ltd, and a number of smaller competitors including A10 Networks, Array Networks, Barracuda Networks, Crescendo Networks, and Zeus Technology Ltd.
