GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Guru Investment Theses on Graco Inc

Mairs & Power Growth Fund Comments on Graco Inc - May 22, 2015

With 53% of its sales overseas and all of its costs in dollars, at year end Graco (GGG) told investors the stronger dollar will present a headwind in its ability to grow earnings in 2015. We like the company. It holds a leading market position as an industrial supplier of pumps and coating equipment. It has an experienced and focused management team with a clear, positive and executable strategy. We view the stock as cheap so we are using the current weakness to add to our position.

Mairs & Power Balanced Fund Comments on Graco Inc - Oct 20, 2014

In the industrials camp, Graco (GGG) was among the portfolio’s below-average performers – even though it managed to deliver above-average growth for the year. Supplying technology and expertise for the management of fluids in both industrial and commercial settings, Graco has a global client base grounded in manufacturing, construction and maintenance. With a stock price that appeared overvalued in 2013, the company now looks much more attractive after the market knocked out some of its excess in the recent period. Despite trimming it somewhat last quarter, Graco still represents a substantial holding for the Fund.

Graco Inc is a Minnesota corporation. It was originally incorporated in the state of South Dakota in 1926 as Gray Company, Inc. and reincorporated in the state of Minnesota in 1947. The Company changed its name to Graco Inc in 1969. The Company and its subsidiaries design, manufacture and sell equipment that pumps, meters, mixes, dispenses and sprays a wide variety of fluids and semi-solids. Primary users of the Company's equipment include contractors and original equipment manufacturers, who use its equipment in a wide variety of applications in the construction, manufacturing, processing and maintenance industries. The Company's equipment is used to paint, finish, fill, glue and seal goods and materials. It sells its equipment through third-party distributors. The Company classifies its business into three reportable segments,: Industrial, Contractor and Lubrication. The Industrial segment represents approximately 59 percent of the Company's total sales. This segment includes the Industrial Products and the Applied Fluid Technologies divisions. End users of the Company's industrial equipment require solutions to their manufacturing and maintenance challenges and are driven to purchase its industrial equipment by the return on investment that its products provide. The Contractor segment generated approximately 31 percent of the Company's 2013 total sales. The Contractor segment directs its product development, sales and marketing efforts toward three broad applications: paint, texture, and pavement maintenance. The Contractor segment markets airless paint and texture sprayers (air, gas, hydraulically- and electrically-powered), accessories such as spray guns, hoses and filters and spare parts such as tips and seals to professional painters in the construction and maintenance industries, tradesmen and do-it-yourselfers. The Lubrication segment represented approximately 10 percent of the Company's sales during 2013. The Lubrication segment focuses its engineering, marketing and sales efforts on two main lubrication applications: vehicle services and industrial. The Lubrication segment markets and sells the Company's lubrication equipment. The primary materials and components that the Company uses in its manufacturing processes are steel of various alloys, sizes and hardness; specialty stainless steel and aluminum bar stock, tubing and castings; tungsten carbide; electric and gas motors; injection molded plastics; sheet metal; forgings; powdered metal; hoses; and electronic components.
