Graham Holdings Co, formerly known as Washington Post Company was incorporated in Delaware. It is an education and media company. Kaplan, Inc., a subsidiary of the Company, provides educational services for students and professionals, both domestically and outside the United States. Kaplan's businesses comprise four categories: Higher Education, Test Preparation, and Kaplan International. Kaplan Higher Education (KHE) provides a array of certificate, diploma and degree programs on campus and online, designed to meet the needs of students seeking to advance their education and career goals. Kaplan University specializes in online education, is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and holds other programmatic accreditations. KHE Campuses business comprised 46 schools in 13 states that were providing classroom-based instruction to approximately 17,400 students, which did not include the approximately 6,400 students enrolled at Kaplan Universitys on-ground campuses. Kaplan Test Preparation (KTP) included test preparation businesses in pre-college, graduate, health and bar review. KTP also published test preparation and other books through its Kaplan Publishing business. Kaplan International operates businesses in Europe and the Asia Pacific region. The Company's media operations consist of the ownership and operation of cable operations, television broadcasting, and several websites and print publications. Cable ONE provides cable services that include video, high-speed data and telephone service in the midwestern, western and southern states of the United States. The Company owns six VHF television stations located in Houston, TX; Detroit, MI; Miami, FL; Orlando, FL; San Antonio, TX; and Jacksonville, FL. Other than its Jacksonville station, WJXT, the Company's television stations are affiliated with one of the major national networks. Kaplan's businesses operate in fragmented and competitive markets. Its Higher Education Division competes with both facilities-based and other distance-learning providers of similar educational services, including not-for-profit colleges and universities and for-profit businesses. In addition to competing with over-the-air reception, cable television systems face competition from various other forms of video program delivery systems, including DBS services, telephone companies and the Internet. The Company's cable, Internet and voice operations are subject to various requirements imposed by local, state and federal governmental authorities.
