Heritage-Crystal Clean Inc was incorporated in the state of Delaware on June 13, 2007. On March 2008 the Company completed its initial public offering. It is engaged in cleaning, containerized waste management, used oil collection and vacuum truck services. It owns and operates a used oil re-refinery. The Company is a provider of parts cleaning and hazardous and non-hazardous waste services to small and mid-sized customers in both the manufacturing and vehicle management sectors in North America. The Company operates its business through the Environmental Services and Oil Business segments. The Environmental Services segment consists of the Company's parts cleaning, containerized waste management and vacuum truck service activities. These services allow its customers to outsource their handling and disposal of parts cleaning solvents as well as other hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. These substances are subject to extensive and complex regulations, and mismanagement can result in citations, penalties, and substantial direct costs, both to the service provider and also to the generator. The Company performed more than 300,000 parts cleaning service calls. Its services allow its customers to outsource their handling and disposal of parts cleaning solvent and other wastes and related administrative responsibilities to the Company. The Oil Business segment consists of the Company's used oil collection and used oil re-refining activities. Through used oil re-refining, the Company recycles used oil into lubricant base oil and byproducts. As of December 28, 2013, the Oil Business segment had 152 active trucks to collect used oil from automotive shops and industrial plants. Through its network of 74 branches, as of December 28, 2013, the Company provided parts cleaning, used oil collection and re-refining, and industrial waste removal services to over 96,000 active customer locations. Through its used oil collection service, the Company collects the used oil generated by its customers when they replace used lubricating oil in vehicles and machinery. The customers store the used oil that they generate in tanks, which must be emptied regularly to mitigate the risk of overflow or termination of their oil change activities. The services are regulated by various governmental agencies at the federal, state, and local levels, including the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA; the Department of Transportation, DOT; the Department of Labor Occupation, Safety and Health Administration, OSHA; the Federal Railroad Administration, FRA; and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
