GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

IntriCon Corp, along with its subsidiaries, is engaged in designing, developing, engineering and manufacturing body-worn devices mainly for medical bio-telemetry devices, value hearing health devices and professional audio communication devices.

IntriCon Corp is a Pennsylvania corporation formed in 1930. The Company is engaged in designing, developing, engineering and manufacturing body-worn devices. It serves the body-worn device market by designing, engineering, developing and manufacturing micro-miniature products, micro-mechanical assemblies, microelectronics and complete assemblies, mainly for bio-telemetry devices, hearing instruments and professional audio communication devices. It focuses on three main markets: medical bio-telemetry, value hearing health and professional audio communications. In the medical bio-telemetry, the company focuses on sales of multiple bio-telemetry devices from life-critical diagnostic monitoring devices to drug-delivery systems. Using its nanoDSP and BodyNet technology platforms, the Company manufactures microelectronics, micro-mechanical assemblies, high-precision injection-molded plastic components and complete bio-telemetry devices for emerging medical device manufacturers. The Company has presence in both the diabetes and cardiac diagnostic monitoring bio-telemetry markets. For diabetes, the Company has partnered with Medtronic to manufacture their wireless continuous glucose monitors that measure glucose levels and deliver real-time blood glucose trend information. In the United States alone, there are approximately 36 million hearing impaired individuals. In personal sound amplifier products, the FDA has created a PSAP category; it is analogous to reader glasses in the optical market and provides a cost effective sound amplification device. These devices are not hearing aids and make no claims of compensating for hearing loss. They can be purchased off-the-shelf and are not fit or prescribed to meet a specific individual's needs. The Company markets its high performance microphone products to the radio communication and professional audio industries and has several larger competitors who have greater financial resources. The market in which its business operates is subject to extensive and rigorous regulation by the FDA and by comparable agencies in foreign countries.
