KB Home was incorporated in Delaware and established in 1957. The Company completed an initial public offering of 8% of its common stock and began operating under the name Kaufman and Broad Home Corporation. In 2001, the company changed its name to KB Home. The Company's homebuilding operations offers a variety of new homes designed for first-time, move-up and active adult homebuyers, including attached and detached single-family residential homes, townhomes and condominiums. The Company offers homes in development communities, at urban in-fill locations and as part of mixed-use projects. The Company's financial services reporting segment offers property and casualty insurance and, in certain instances, earthquake, flood and personal property insurance to its homebuyers in the same markets as its homebuilding reporting segments, and provides title services in the majority of its markets located within its Central and Southeast homebuilding reporting segments. The Company provide a limited warranty on all of its homes. The specific terms and conditions vary depending on the markets where the company do business. The Company generally provides a structural warranty of 10 years, a warranty on electrical, heating, cooling, plumbing and certain other building systems each varying from two to five years based on geographic market and state law, and a warranty of one year for other components of a home. The Company is subject to a variety of local, state and federal statutes, ordinances, rules and regulations concerning the environment, including requirements to manage and/or mitigate storm water runoff, dust particles and other environmental impacts of its land development and home construction activities at its new home communities.
